Evanston Golf Club is one of the premier, private golf clubs in the Chicago area with a robust history on the North Shore. Donald Ross laid out Evanston Golf Club’s challenging 18-hole course in 1917, not long after our club moved to its current location. A 2007 refresh by Ross disciple Ron Pritchard preserved the Ross design while updating our course for the modern game.
Our beautiful parkland course, while close to the city, offers a seemingly remote and relaxing experience for golfers of all handicaps. From ladies' leagues to junior programs, Evanston offers many great golf groups and tournaments each season for all types of golfers. Our golf staff is dedicated to providing the best golf instruction through lessons and clinics while using the finest equipment to assist the development of all golfers. Amenities at Evanston include a fully-stocked golf shop, practice tee, golf carts, push carts, caddies and full-service locker rooms. Spacious wooden lockers, comfortable furniture and welcoming bars with snug lounges make our locker rooms a great space to unwind in a private, social setting.
Head Golf Professional - Eric Barnes
Eric’s passion for golf and love of the game stemmed from early weekend mornings playing golf with his dad in Santa Barbara, where he grew up. Starting his golf career as a starter in the sunny state, his first job was in Pebble Beach, Calif., at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club in 1983. A few years later Eric moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., to be the Assistant Golf Professional at Pinnacle Peak Country Club, where he won the Southwest Assistants Championship in 1985. Before his tenure as Assistant Golf Professional at Evanston, he held the same title at Barrington Hills Country Club in 1988 and then at Onwentsia Golf Club in 1991. A protégé of Hal Miller, Eric was the Assistant Golf Professional at Evanston from 1996 to 2002 until he became Head Golf Professional at Glen Flora in 2003. Though he departed Evanston for a few years, in 2007 Eric returned as the Head Golf Professional and has since represented everything Evanston stands for: camaraderie, great sportsmanship and a passion for golf.
Evanston Golf Club is closed to the general membership on Mondays throughout the year. Private golf outings are eligible for play on this day, along with use of the clubhouse. Our preferred months to host a golf outing are April, May, September and October. Please contact our staff at 847-676-0300 for more information and available dates.
